This image you see here is a piece that I did for a portfolio project for class. It’s mostly done in Photoshop and I think that it is very cool to make this kind of art. I have never really been the artsy type, but I have found that this I can do. I plan on making a short screen cast in the near future showing how I this image came into existence. Why would I be willing to give away my secrets you ask because I like to share this kind of thing with people. I feel that if all of us horde our knowledge then we have nobody to pick up the reigns when we are gone so keep checking back for the screen cast and enjoy the image.

So the war rages on. What do I mean by this? Well every company whether it’s Apple, Microsoft, Canon, or Nikon have the people that are zealots about using those products and nothing else comes close and nobody can convince them otherwise. We have all heard about the battles between Apple and Microsoft and Canon and Nikon, but does it really matter what brand of equipment you use to get the job done. To me not really. Not anymore anyways. I fill that you should use whatever works best for the job at hand. If your job is graphics heavy it use to be that all you would want to use is an Apple computer it’s not that way anymore. More and more people are starting to use a Windows machine for graphic jobs. Personally I’m an Apple and Canon guy and the reason being is those are the systems I’m most comfortable with and the ones that just works for me. For somebody else that could a Windows machine and Nikon or whatever. My point is that they are all just tools and we should all use the tools that will help us do our jobs better no matter who makes it. So if you lime one company over another and somebody else likes another just agree to disagree and move on with your lives.

Well Canon has done it again. They are going to be coming out with two new cameras in the coming months that will benefit photographers in major ways. The 1D-MkIV and the 7D both have HD video recording, built in camera level, and the 7D has the ability to trigger remote flashes with the built in flash. These are just a few of the new features of these cameras, but they look to be major improvements on an already awesome line up of tools for us photographers. For more information and to see videos about the cameras check out Canon.com.

Well I got back from Colorado last night and let me tell you it was very hard for me to come home. It’s an amazing place to visit and to photograph. I took around 1200 photos while we were there and some video on my iPhone and posted it to facebook. We visited many places like pikes peak (we didn’t have the chance to go up it but I was able to see and photograph it), we went to Manitou Springs, The Garden of The Gods, Fairplay, and The Royal Gordge. It was an awesome trip that I hope to make again some day, but really I want to move there when I get done with college I don’t care if I’m photographing for the local news paper I want to live there at least for a while.

Here are just a few quick tips before you go out shooting next time.

1: check your camera settings- Before you start to take pictures check the settings on your camera. I’ve done this many times went out to go shooting with out checking my settings and either my pictures come out some odd colors because I didn’t check my white balance setting or I take the first frame and I forgot that I was doing night photography the last time I was out and the shutter speed is set to 30 seconds or something crazy, so always just run through your settings before you start shooting.

2: Look around- When you first come to a scene don’t focus on just one subject. Look around and see what is there and also look at the different angles you capture your subject at, you may be surprised.

3: Try new things- Don’t think that there is only one way to make a great image. Don’t be afraid of breaking the “rules” of photography. Once you learn the basics and can make good images using those concepts, change it up break those “rules” and you may surprise your self in the process.

These are just three quick tips that have helped me produce good images and also helped me to realize that when it comes to photography it can payoff big time by following your instinct and not being afraid of trying new and different ways of making your own masterpiece.
