Part web designer, part photographer, part nerd, but it’s All Charlie

Hey

December 15th, 2008

Hey guys I know it’s been a while since I did a post, but I have been rather busy with work and with finishing up with school, but I’m done with school for a while so I hope to make some more posts in the coming days and weeks. I’ve been doing a lot of photography lately to check out some of my latest work head on over to www.charliekphotography.com I have also posted a price sheet because more people have become increasingly interested in my work and me doing some work for them. So check it out and see if you like my work and if so we can work something out. Anyways I’ll try and think of something else to write about later on, besides plugging my photography work. Well I’ll talk to you guys soon.

Times…..

November 20th, 2008

The times we live in now can be described as depressing by some. Me, I try to be positive. I know things may suck now, but they can’t always suck. I know for me nothing has really changed except the way I spend my money. I try not to just waste my money on stuff I don’t need like movies and such, instead I buy lenses, camera accessories, or stuff like that to help along my career. I don’t look at them as toys or stuff, but tools I need to make it as a photographer. If you haven’t seen some of my work head on over to www.charliekphotography.com and check out my gallery of photos I have on there. Anyways back to what I was talking about. It may seem like things are going to be bad forever, but I don’t believe it to be so. The only thing that doesn’t change is things change, times go from good to bad then maybe not so bad to back to good. Nothing will remain the same for ever it can’t it’s law or something. Well guys have a good Thanksgiving don’t have too much turkey!!

I live….

November 10th, 2008

Yes yes I live. Sorry for not posting anything new in a few days I promise to try and do better, but I’ve been rather busy and its just going to get busier, still thats no excuse. Anyways, so I’ve been really wanting to buy one of the new Macbooks, but I think I’m going to have to wait until version 2 because of all the stuff I’m hearing about the track pad messing up. Have you guys heard of the track pad not recognizing clicks or the cursor just starts moving? Ahh well it’s probably for the best to wait and let Apple work out the kinks in their new stuff. Another thing a lot of people are complaining about it the lack of firewire in the Macbook. For me this isn’t a huge deal. Yes I can see were it would be for people who have a lot of firewire drives or do video editing on the road. Really I could care less the lack of firewire isn’t going to keep me from buying a new Macbook. Besides the next camcorder I buy will be tapeless anyways so all I need is a USB card reader and I can do all my editing on the road, so there see problem solved. Everything else I have been hearing is positive about the new laptops, but I still think the smart move is to wait for version 2.0.

Got some news for ya…

November 2nd, 2008

Ok I just launched charliekphotography.com. This is my online portfolio for my photography, but it’s not just pictures. I have tips, videos, and a blog. It will be centered around photography, but it’s still pretty cool. Check it out and let me know what you think.

HD Video Camcorders

October 31st, 2008

I’ve been looking at some HD cameras and there are some good ones out there. If your like me then you are wanting to go tapeless. The one that I’m looking at is the Canon HF-100. It uses SDHC memory cards. With a 4GB memory card you can get about an hour of full HD video. It uses a new mini hot shoe for different assecories. There is also an extended life battery that can be purchased the only down fall is that the battery is black and the camera is silver. That’s not a big deal for me because I prefer fuctionallity instead of looks. I do believe this is the camera I will be purchasing in the near future. If you want more info head on over to canon.com.

What to get for the holidays?

October 21st, 2008

What products should you look closely at this holiday season? Since I mostly concentrate on Technology all of the gifts will be techy and maybe, just maybe a bit nerdy. Anywho. Let us start with cameras. The new Panasonic Lx3. It has 10 mega pixel, 3in LCD display on the back, and a big feature for most photographers is that it shoots RAW. Many people have tested it out and have really liked it, the only downside that I could see when checking out the specs for this camera is the price. At almost $500 you can purchase a entry level DSLR, like a Canon Rebel XT or Nikon D40. Next on my list is Xbox 360 which has recently had a price drop down to $199 for the Arcade system. The Arcade system has no hardrive and comes with a wired controller. If you are looking to do some more “hardcore” gaming like Gears of War 2, Tom Clancy’s End War, and Call of Duty: World at War then I would go with the Xbox 360, but if you are a more casual gamer or your trying to buy something for the family, then its all about the Wii. The Wii has many games that are aimed at more casual gamers and are easier for people that either have never played a video game or people that just never really picked up the hobby. If you have a little extra money to spend on that special some one or its the only gift they are getting from you for like two years then I recommend the new MacBook. Apple has made some significant updates to the new Macbooks. With the new Nvidia GeForce 9400M chip set the MacBooks get a needed boost in the graphics area. You are now able to configure a new MacBook with larger hard drives, larger amounts of memory (up to 4GB), and a processor speed boost in the more expensive version. Also a noted new feature is the ability to have a solid state drive. What is a solid state drive? Well it’s basically a large flash card like you put in your camera or phone, but with around 128 GB of storage. It’s a costly upgrade because SSD is still a relatively new technology, on this scale at least. Apple has also updated the look of the new MacBooks. The bottom assembly is constructed out of a solid peice of aluminum. Making the new Books stronger and sturdier. They went to all glossy screens with a glass face plate to protect the LED lit screen. If you haven’t seen these new MacBooks I suggest going over to Apple.com and check them out, but only after you are done here. Well thats it for the products that I recommend for the nerds in your family or if your lucky enough to date one.

It has been decided

October 20th, 2008

Ok it has been decided. After Apple’s keynote last week I have made up my mind in that I’m going to save the money and purchase one of the new Macbooks. I was at first going to go with the Macbook Pro, but after seeing tv changes made to the MacBook I’m going with it.

Toys

October 14th, 2008

Toys. We all have them, child and adult alike. It’s a funny thing that how as we grow older the coat of our toys also grows more expencive. Have you ever noticed? I have when the next couple of toys I want cost over 2k each. I just find that kind of humorus. But I guess that is the way of life. I’m glad that the toys that I wish to purchase will also help me in my career to come whether it be photographer or digital media design. The first I would like to get is a new laptop. The particular one I am looking at is the Mac book pro, but that could all change today because Apple is releasing a new laptop today which I hope to find out more about today. The second is the Canon 5d mk II. I have already told all I know about it’s tech. Specs in an earlier post. I look forward to see if it performs like it’s suppose to. Well that’s all for today talk to y’all later.

Cameras

September 24th, 2008

Have you heard the news? Well let me go back one. Are you a Canon user? If so your probably just as excited as I am about the new Canon 5d MK II. From what I have read and watched this thing is a work of art! 21.1 megapixels 1080p HD video capture oh not to mention the new Digic 4 image processor. Which they say is much faster then the Digic 3 processors. I’m really interested to see how people use this tool to create some amazing photos and video. I mean you could make a full movie with this camera. You’ll have even more creative freedom if you have a lot of lenses. Well we’ll have to wait and see when the camera is released in November ( I believe). Well good hunting everybody and I’ll see you next time.
